The shield pays homage to the Oklahoma state flag, which displays the Osage shield to represent the indigenous tribes forcefully relocated to the Indian territory within our state.
The red circle represents the blood of the victims of the the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, one of the most deadly and violent incidents of racial violence in US history.
The white star represents our city's bright future. Both the star and shield were designed in the Art Deco style, as Tulsa is a hotbed of this style of architecture.
