Whaling Graphics 1989 Gilcrease Ornament
This ornament celebrates Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum, founded 1949. It houses the world's largest, most comprehensive art collection of the American West.
The museum also has a vast Native American and Hispanic Heritage collection.
The back piece shows Gilcrease's architecture. The distinctive, rounded entryway roof and connecting interior vault is based on the traditional Iriquois Longhouse.
The center shows the Sacred Arrow Rain statue by Allan Houser, in front of the entryway. On the left is the messenger bird, designed by Woody Crumbo, Native American artist from Oklahoma.
